Providing vision care worldwide

Eye Foundation of America (EFA) provides preventive eye care and treatment that is both affordable and accessible. We want to eliminate avoidable blindness, especially in children.

EFA’s mission is to go where the need is greatest – often rural and remote areas of developing countries where there is no medical care or where the cost of the care is prohibitive.

Globally, 1 billion people are struggling with a vision impairment that can be prevented or has not yet been addressed. Here’s how we help…

No-one should have to suffer avoidable blindness due to where they live or lack of affordability.

Vision Surgeries

Retinopathy Prematurity

Growing up with the gift of sight.

Without sight children are hindered not only in every day tasks but their learning is debilitated as 80% is done visually. Meet the individuals we’ve made an impact on.

Vida

Vida is a nurse from a remote village outside of Ghana. The closest hospital is in the city of Ghana but that is a very far travel for her and her time was dwindling as her vision deteriorated.

Vida was beginning to experience problems from a cornea perforation. She was desperate to receive a cornea transplant so she could better serve her own patients back home.

With worries of losing her sight she had some help from some friends and she was introduced to our collaborator in Ghana, Dr Wanye.

He assured her she needn’t worry. EFA was able to fund her surgery. Today she is overjoyed her vision has returned and she feels blessed she can just read again.

Help fund projects like this one so people like Vida can live life to the fullest potential.

Prasanth, Sushanth and Nisanth

Born premature triplets; Prasanth, Sushanth and Nisanth developed Retinopathy Prematurity. An eye disease that can cause bleeding in the eye. If not treated with surgery immediately the children grow up to be blind.

Luckily through GEMROP an initiative funded by EFA to screen premature babies throughout hospitals in India, the triplets were able to receive an expensive surgery free of charge.

The boys are now the age of 4 and excelling in pre-school.

Srinu Maddula

Srinu Maddula was born nearly blind in rural India.

Without a double corneal transplant his vision would be compromised at an early age.

Thanks to the medical care he received in 1985 he has gone on to be a successful pharmacist and CEO of a large healthcare organization.

“Because of this surgery my life literally went from darkness to full of hope.”

Srinu is just one of many individuals the Eye Foundation of America has been able to help.
