The Dream Comes True!

In India there are 13 million blind people and 81% of this blindness is due to Cataract. Studies have shown that there are more people with Cataract in rural areas than in urban areas. The social and economic hardships created by blindness gravely affect individuals, families, and the nation at large. The tragedy is that most of the blind people live in poverty with no access to eye care facilities.

Srikiran made a humble beginning on 21st January, 1993 with 26 beds (8 paid and 18 free). The Institute slowly procured all the latest equipment necessary to provide modern eye care, thanks to Dr. V. K. Raju and other philanthropic organizations.

Since its inception, the Institute has served hundreds of thousands of people, paid as well as subsidized and surgeries were performed when necessary. Srikiran is continuing to improve the vision of the rural population with its various programs under the able leadership of Dr. Chandra Sekhar.

Goutami Eye Institute

A new institute, Goutami Eye Institute, has been inaugurated in Rajahmundry in February 2006, with the help of the Eye Foundation of America with Dr. G. Madhavi as the medical director and Mr. Madhu as the executive director. This institute is poised to take the challenge in the childhood vision problems. With the involvement of local service organizations and the local medical school's interest, Goutami Eye Institute is ready to reach for the ultimate goal of prevention of childhood blindness.

Within a short time, Goutami Eye Institute has accomplished a lot.
